Anne Black
I am a classical musician and visual artist and have lived in Arlington, MA for over 30 years. My husband and I are preparing to retire to Eastport and have built a house on Water Street after falling in love with Eastport about 15 years ago, when I was doing a photography project for Eastport Strings. As a musician, I enjoy a dynamic career as violist and violinist, performing a wide variety of music. I have toured the US, Asia and Europe with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Symphony/Boston Pops as a substitute violist, the Handel + Haydn Society period instrument orchestra, and many other groups in the Boston area. My work as a visual artist incudes photography, digital montage, painting, monotype, mixed media, jewelry, and fiber art. I take special delight in unexpected vantage points, abstraction, complex layering, intuitive mark-making, vivid color and texture. My art has always been closely connected with my love of nature and I am equally inspired by my surroundings at home and on my travels. My artist statement sums it up: Swirling dawn mists. Moonlit cloudscapes. Fanciful reflections. Patterns of light and shadow. Full-frame worlds exploding from dewdrops. Abstract urban scenes. Bird songs. Choruses of cicadas, crickets and bull frogs. Crashing surf, burbling streams. Footsteps in the snow. Wind in the treetops. Kids playing. City sounds. String quartets with friends. Inspiration everywhere – Never a dull moment!
